As a whole, Generation Y will collectively spend more than $200 billion annually starting in 2017 and $10 trillion in their lifetimes, a significant portion of which will naturally be on foods and beverages.

While definitions of its exact scope vary, the buying power of Generation Y is both enormous and growing.
Ajinomoto North America opened its Customer Application Center in suburban Chicago. Officials say the new site in Itasca, Ill., will serve as “a hub of innovation, allowing Ajinomoto to transfer unique, cutting-edge technologies developed in the company’s central research and development facilities in ways that meet the diverse market tastes and demands of the North American market.”
Think of this a viewpoint from 30,000 feet. Actually, that's literally the case because I'm writing this on the plane home from the 2012 Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif.
In this first edition, “Food for Thought” talks with Kettle Cuisine Corporate Executive Chef Joseph Ascoli. Kettle Cuisine, Chelsea, Mass., is a national supplier of frozen and refrigerated soups, chili’s, chowders and stews for private label retail, restaurant and in-store deli sales. The company promoted Ascoli in February to succeed Volker Frick, who retired but remains as the company’s executive chef emeritus.
Speaking of fast food, a new Zagat survey recently revealed the names of “America’s best and most popular chains,” according to a September 7, 2011, Los Angeles Times article.
