Momofuku Goods, the pantry staple brand from chef David Chang, announced the launch of its new line of Korean BBQ sauces — the first new product line to launch from the brand since 2021. The sauces will be available direct-to-consumer starting May 1, 2024, and will hit Whole Foods Market shelves on June 1, 2024 with other retailers to follow.
With the release of these new sauces, Momofuku Goods is returning to the roots of the company which used to sell Ssäm Sauce, a longtime staple in its restaurants, as early as 2015; the company even launched a Ssam Sauce for a limited time in 2018. This latest collection consists of two SKUS:
- Sweet & Savory Korean BBQ Sauce: a deeply flavorful, balanced blend with tasting notes of black pepper, ginger, and soy. The sauce is versatile and can be used to marinate meat, punch up a stir-fry, or dip dumplings.
- Sweet & Spicy Korean BBQ Sauce: a gently spiced, balanced blend with tasting notes of gochujang, soy sauce, and other umami-packed flavors. It provides a medium spiciness with a "Korean" kick, balanced with sweetness and a deep umami backbone.
Both sauces come in a squeezable format, making them easy to use for dipping, drizzling, or drenching. The consistency of the sauces is thicker than normal, more like a traditional BBQ sauce, which enhances their versatility and application.
Momofuku's Korean BBQ sauces will be available on shop.momofuku.com for $13 each as well as Whole Foods Market locations for $9.99 each nationwide.
