January 20/Schaumburg, Ill./SPINS -- In 2012, consumers will be clamoring for raw, gluten-free, vegan products without genetically modified organisms (GMOs). In addition, these better be packaged in nontoxic containers, according to SPINS Trendwatch 2012, a yearly predictions report from SPINS' natural and specialty product experts.

According to the report, the big product-attribute-related trends in 2012 will be raw and cultured foods, gluten-free body care, vegan, nontoxic packaging and nonGMO labeling. Organic supplements and energy shots will be hot, and the key health condition will be cognitive health, according to the report.

The most-popular ingredients in 2012 will be chia, garbanzo beans, quinoa, argan oil, African mango, fruit stem cells, dairy alternatives and probiotics.

Consumers will want to shop at the specialty gourmet retail and the local producer while buying  artisanal/artisan products.  They will also continue to self-diagnosis and give themselves self-care with alternatives to conventional and over-the-counter medicine.
