Though they are more educated about GMOs, consumers find reason to question their safe use in foods and beverages

As awareness grows more consumers recognize that GMOs have benefits in producing better and more resilient crops, but for many of those aware the benefits don’t outweigh their worry, making GMOs the fastest growing food additive concern, according to new NPD Group research.
Several significant developments have the potential to shape the types of claims that producers make about the genetically engineered (GE) content of their foods.
Over half of U.S. consumers express some level of concern about genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), but when asked to describe GMOs, many consumers are unclear, according to recently released food market The NPD Group, a leading global information company.
With bans on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in place or arriving throughout the rest of the world, the U.S. is in the unenviable position of already having up to 90% of its seed and grain crops derived from GMOs.
