In early 2017 NPD reported that 6% of US consumers shopped online for groceries and now up to 16%, or over 52 million people, shop online, using either delivery or click-and-collect. The convenience of online grocery shopping has trumped some of the concerns consumers previously had about shopping online for groceries, such as higher costs, fees, or waiting for delivery. And, like shopping online for other consumer goods, online grocery shoppers take an omnichannel approach and still shop at brick-and-mortar grocers.
dunnhumby unveils research on consumer food preferences

dunnhumby, a customer science company, released its findings on consumer food preferences, a data-driven science study aimed at informing the consumer packaged goods industry and revealing and predicting the future needs of consumers. The report analyzes emerging trends, as well as verifies the validity and accuracy of its 2014 findings.
Over the past decade the food buying habits of Hispanics have begun to mirror those of American consumers as a whole, and U.S. marketers must be aware of various emerging trends if they seek to effectively reach the increasingly influential Latino consumer segment.
The International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) commissioned a study to examine consumer attitudes toward deli purchases. “Consumers in the Deli: Attitudes, Buying Behavior and Purchase Drivers” found nearly two thirds of respondents claim they are making a “serious effort” to cut back on fat.
