Feed Your Mind is a new outreach program that aims to increase consumer awareness and understanding of genetically engineered foods

GMO is a common term used by consumers to describe foods that have been created through genetic engineering. While GMOs have been available to consumers since the early 1990s and are a common part of today's food supply, research shows consumers have limited knowledge and understanding about what GMOs are, why they are used, and how they are made.
Several significant developments have the potential to shape the types of claims that producers make about the genetically engineered (GE) content of their foods.
American food shoppers have grown increasingly confident in the ingredient labels on foods and beverages found on store shelves. A survey of 566 mothers across the country shows some 80% feel confident they know what is in the food they are putting on their dinner tables; for 70% of them, this is because of the detailed ingredient labeling on products.
