Oterra, a leading global supplier of natural colors, accelerated its growth with the December 2021 purchase of Food Ingredient Solutions.
Founded in 1999, Food Ingredient Solutions (FIS) is a leading US producer of colors and natural antioxidants, with a strong exposure to, and growth from, natural colors. FIS serves more than 400 customers annually and has two certified processing facilities located in Teterboro, N.J., and Marshfield, Mo.
In other news, it also was in December that Oterra completed its previously announced purchase of Diana Food’s European food coloring business. That deal included two Diana sites in Cossé in France and Holbeach in the UK and brought the company’s European production footprint to 10 facilities. It was last April and May when Oterra also purchased SECNA Natural Ingredients Group S.L., with holdings in Spain, Italy and Turkey.
Officials note that FIS is Oterra’s first US-based acquisition and strengthens its on-the-ground international presence.
“North America is one of the fastest growing natural colors markets, and this acquisition puts Oterra in a great position to further support our customers in the conversion towards natural colors,” said Oterra Chairman Cees de Jong.
“We look forward to welcoming the Food Ingredient Solutions team to Oterra,” added Oterra CEO Erik Hansen. “They will join a strong team of dedicated natural color specialists from around the world, and their addition will be met with excitement, especially from our US employees as we further strengthen our US position.”
FIS Founder & CEO Jeff Greaves has joined Oterra.
“I’m thrilled that Food Ingredient Solutions will become a part of Oterra,” he said. “We have a strong local presence and great customer relationships, and as Oterra we will be able to offer our customers access to the most extensive portfolio of natural colors in the world.”
Oterra formerly was known as Chr. Hansen Natural Colors A/S. It was acquired by investment organization EQT in 2021.
