Biorigin (Açucareira Quatá SA) proudly announces that it has received the Gold medal of Ecovadis.
EcoVadis is a collaborative platform that provides sustainability rankings involving suppliers for global supply chains. Biorigin was ranked among the 1% of the 55,000 companies participating in the EcoVadis 2019 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assessment, with a score of 68/100. This result earned Açucareira Quatá S.A. a gold rating for the first time.
“We are proud that EcoVadis´s experts have acknowledged our commitment. The Gold status is a clear message to our customers who attach importance to sustainability in the value chain. The Bonsucro Chain of Custody certification of our sites and the endorsement of external initiative on environmental issues—i.e, Etanol Mais Verde and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)—were major milestones for us," notes Gilberto Alves Santos, Biorigin environmental senior analyst.
He adds, “In the sustainable procurement area, for example, we have criteria on social and environmental in our supplier assessment, and we adopted the Bonsucro certification as a reference in sustainability practices in the sugarcane production chain.”
Biorigin became a member of EcoVadis in 2016, and since this affiliation, the ingredient supplier has worked to improve its performance. EcoVadis evaluates sustainability performance against 21 criteria and four categories. Those topics cover environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices.
Sustainability policies, initiatives and outcomes have been reviewed against international CSR standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and ISO 26000.
Director Mario Steinmetz says Biorigin is committed to add value to its customers’ products.
“We have built a solid path to demonstrate to our stakeholders that our ingredients—in addition to their natural origin, quality and technology—have important environmental added value to food and feed industries worldwide,” he says.
Biorigin is dedicated to the art of creating and producing innovative natural ingredients for the health and well-being of people and animals. Committed to add value to its customers’ products, it ensures traceability, sustainability, and quality throughout the production process, from the raw material sugarcane to the finished products.
It is the first company to obtain the Bonsucro Chain of Custody certification for yeast extracts and derivatives produced from fermentable sugar and sugarcane yeast cream, demonstrating Biorigin’s commitment to social, environmental, and economic practices through sustainable sourcing.
Biorigin is ISO 14001, FSSC 22000, SQF, Bonsucro and Ecovadis certified as well as Sedex member, and the food ingredients products are Kosher, Halal and Non GMO Project Verified.
