The Niagara grape is a white grape with a golden hue. It delivers a sophisticated flavor profile that is crisp, sweet, light and refreshing and its juice is a popular ingredient in the juices and soft beverages category. Now R&D specialists at Welch’s Global Ingredients Group have developed a de-characterized version of the juice that is perfect for fermentation and blending with wine made from more traditional wine grape varieties and even other fruits.
Scientists have found that an antioxidant found in red wine, grapes and nuts -- a substance similar to resveratrol -- could protect against radiation sickness.
Some attribute the phenomenon of the "French Paradox" to consumption of red wine at least to a certain degree. Although the French consume a diet high in saturated fatty acids, have high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and smoking rates similar to other countries, their incidence of death due to coronary heart disease is relatively low.
