ConAgra Foods Inc. praised the FDA for approving its petition for a qualified health claim that links whole grain consumption to a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

As a result of this approval, food manufacturers will now be able to communicate that whole grains and whole grain-containing foods which meet certain nutrient requirements outlined by the FDA may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Reed’s Inc. will start labeling all of its products as GMO-free.

The first of these two newly proposed rules, Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals, will describe the means by which third-parties will be able to conduct food safety audits and issue certifications of foreign facilities and the foods for humans and animals they produce.
The FDA is amending the color additive regulations to provide for the safe use of spirulina extract made from the dried biomass of Arthrospira platensis as a color additive in candy and chewing gum.
