August 29, 2007/Minneapolis/The Record(Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario) -- General Mills Inc. said it is cutting more than 500 jobs and closing two plants in Trenton, Ont., and Pennsylvania due to deteriorating financials.

The company took over the plants in its 2001 acquisition of Pillsbury.

The company said it is closing a frozen waffle plant in Allentown, Pa., resulting in the elimination of 111 employees. It is also shuttering a frozen dough facility in Trenton, where 470 people work. The company said it will provide severance benefits and transition services to laid-off workers.
