  • Gold Coast Ingredients named C.M. Barnes laboratory manager.

  • Main Street Ingredients promoted Ellen Lusk to sales manager, Food Ingredient Group. The company also named Matthew Weinbender information technology manager. Eric Hallstead in the account manager in the Functional Systems Group.

  • Tate & Lyle formed a new Global Food Ingredients Group responsible for global food ingredients marketing and growth opportunities. The group will be led by Mark White, formerly chief executive of Sugars, Europe, who assumed the position of president, Global Food Ingredients.

  • Cargill was recently nominated by more than 50 of its peers in the nutraceuticals industry as a company worth watching over the next several years. More than 30 companies were nominated for inclusion in the Nutraceuticals World “Companies to Watch” list. Cargill's Health and Food Technologies (H&FT) business placed among the top five and was profiled in the June 2005 issue.

  • Citroil Enterprises appointed Elaine Kellman Grosinger director of R&D for its recently opened Flavors Division.

  • D.D. Williamson selected John Calland as European sales manager to succeed Peter Comline upon his retirement in December.

  • FMC BioPolymer increased prices for food and pharmaceutical brand products by 5% to 10% on average. Depending on the product line, increases will be applied to list pricing and as contracts permit. Additionally, FMC will pass on increases levied by freight carriers to customers who have delivered pricing.

  • GTC Nutrition, a business unit of Corn Products International Inc., named Coni Francis scientific affairs manager. GTC also named Bart Dunsford senior account manager—animal nutrition.

  • Mike Bloom of Flavor & Fragrance Specialties was elected president of the National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems. Also elected to one-year terms as officers were: president-elect Paula Boudjouk, Medallion International; vice presidents Phil Parisi, David Michael & Co. and Joe Moran, Allen Flavors; treasurer Howard Smith Jr., Virginia Dare; and secretary Bill Becker, Advanced Biotech.

  • Joanne C. Ivy, senior vice president of the American Egg Board, received the Denis Wellstead Memorial Trophy as the “International Egg Person of the Year” from the International Egg Commission.

  • LycoRed Corp. acquired the assets and business of Buckton Scott Nutrition, a subsidiary of Buckton Scott Group. Furthermore, ImageWorks LLC. completed work and unveiled a new innovative website for LycoRed Natural Products Industries Ltd., the Israel-based tomato processing company that manufactures and distributes Lyc-O-Mato.

  • ConAgra Foods Inc. named Mark Pettie president, Dairy, based in Naperville, Ill., and Diane Teer president, Culinary Products, ConAgra Foodservice.

  • The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. announced the signing of an agreement to sell the North American trademark rights for the Trolli gummy candy brand and the associated Creston, Iowa, production facility to Farley's & Sathers Candy Co. Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

  • Sargento Foods Inc. named Steve Kinsel as an analyst with the Wal-Mart team and promoted Chuck Zielski to director of sales. Mark Comerford was named as director of sales, responsible for direct sales for U.S. foodservice chains, as well as divisional administrative management, sales support and international sales and development.

  • Cadbury Schweppes PLC agreed to sell its European beverages arm for 1.85 billion euros ($2.2 billion) to a private equity consortium led by Blackstone Group and Lion Capital LLP.

  • Hershey is reorganizing its corporate structure, forming a U.S. commercial group, an international commercial group and a global growth and innovation group.

  • Tests appear to link the artificial sweetener aspartame with an increased rate of cancer, a new report says. The study, appearing in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, tells of a statistically significant increase in the incidence of malignant tumors, lymphoma and leukemia in rats exposed to varying doses of aspartame.

  • Enzymotec appointed Ilan Leviteh as the company's acting chairman of the board.

  • Switching to decaffeinated coffee could increase the risk of heart disease, according to research. The drink may lead to a rise in harmful cholesterol by increasing a specific type of blood fat linked to the metabolic syndrome, researchers have found.

  • Pepsi-Cola North America (PCNA) announced the promotion of Cie Nicholson to senior vice president and chief marketing officer for PCNA, with Meena Mansharamani filling a newly created post as senior vice president of innovation and insights.

  • Universal Food & Beverage Company appointed Ralph Passino senior vice president of Mergers, Acquisitions & Joint Ventures, a new executive division of Universal.

  • Kerry Bio-Science named two market managers—Don Heffner and John Dika—to spearhead its frozen dessert and cultured dairy products commercial activities. Heffner will be responsible for leading the company's sales and technical service activities for the frozen dessert market. Dika is now market manager for cultured products.

  • New World Brands Inc. appointed David Rudden chief executive officer.

  • Israel Chemicals Ltd. completed the acquisition of the business and assets of Astaris LLC.

  • Poore Brothers Inc. announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent to acquire certain assets and liabilities of Shadewell Grove Foods Inc. and Shadewell Grove IP LLC, including the Mrs. Field's licenses to produce and sell ready-to-eat cookies, baking chips, brownies and toppings through grocery, drug, club, mass and convenience store channels.

  • SPI Polyols Inc added Mitch Krukar as national accounts manager.

  • Hormel Foods Corporation elected Jeffrey M. Ettinger to be the company's ninth chief executive officer.

  • Sara Lee Corporation signed an agreement to sell its U.S. retail coffee business to Italy-based Segafredo Zanetti Group for $82.5 million.

  • Fortitech Inc. named Thomas Morba purchasing manager.

  • Degussa AG agreed to sell its food ingredients operations to Cargill for 540 million euros ($670 million). The transaction is still contingent on the approval of Degussa's supervisory board and the relevant regulatory authorities.

  • Mastertaste Inc. announced a realignment of its global management structure. Paul Shanahan has been promoted to managing director, Europe; Michael O'Neill has been named president of both the Natural Products Division and the Manheimer Fragrance business unit; Shane McGibney has been appointed CFO of Mastertaste Inc.; Steve Raphel has been appointed executive vice president of sales and business development for the Manheimer Fragrance business unit; Edmond Scanlon has been named vice president of finance for both the natural products and fragrance business units; and Sidy Dioum has been named general manager of Mastertaste's China operation.

  • Ecolab opened its 200,000-square-foot Global Research and Development Center on the new Ecolab Allan L. Schuman Campus in Eagan, Minn.
