Dr Pepper/Seven Up Inc. (a part of Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, Plano, Texas) has announced plans for 7 Up Plus. This carbonated, caffeine-free beverage will be fortified with calcium and vitamin C, and sweetened with sucralose. It also marks the nation's first fortified carbonated beverage from any of the major brands.

“Our research indicates there are times when consumers want their favorite, classic soft drinks with added nutritional benefits. 7 Up Plus is an easy way for consumers to put some 'balance in their bubbles' when choosing a carbonated beverage,” says Randy Gier, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages executive and vice president-marketing.

Each 12oz. serving will contain roughly 10 calories and 3g of carbohydrates, while also serving as “a good source of calcium and vitamin C according to U.S. referenced daily intake guidelines,” says the company.

The new product also will be a bit of a departure from its namesake in another way: the lemon-lime beverage will have a splash of real fruit juice.
