Dole Food Company Inc. announced the appointment of Dr. Thomas Farewell as vice president, Worldwide Applied Research, effective September 21. Farewell will report to Richard J. Dahl, president and chief operating officer of Dole. His responsibilities will include working with the company's divisional research organizations to continue Dole's history of research innovations and agricultural practices.
Farewell served as a military officer with the Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1992 with the rank of colonel. His last military assignment was chief of Financial Programming at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
He worked for GMP Associates in Honolulu as vice president, Federal and International Programs. Most recently, he was president and CEO of the Oceanic Institute in Hawaii. The Oceanic Institute is a private, not-for-profit research and development corporation that has a for-profit subsidiary for which he oversaw the management of 110 professional and scientific staff.
In welcoming Farewell to Dole, Dahl stated, "We are pleased to have an individual of Dr. Farewell's caliber and qualifications joining Dole. Our research and development divisions, with over 40 senior scientists, are the key to our success in being a leader in delivering nutritional products to our customers."
